The best arraignment to capture as much light as possible is to fan out and establish a space. This most trees and plants do. This strategy also works the other way. Whether looking in to capture the energy from the sun or presenting out as seen here for the display of color.

This is a detail print from the previous image. I often find several compositions within a single image and will sometimes create two prints from the original photograph. I particularly liked the watercolor rendering of the leaves.

You can’t imagine how delighted I was when I finished creating this print. The colors just popped out at me. I felt that I had been to the north woods and gotten lucky. The location is Saluda Shoals, in central South Carolina. Not particularly known for its fall colors. What color there was had just about finished. I found a couple places where there was still a little color and sunlight (as it was late in the afternoon). Who needs to go to Maine?

I have always admired the wall displays of butterflys. It is a great way to introduce the natural world and its colors into a room. The one disadvantage is that the frame has to be in scale with the subject which is very small so the impact of such a collection is limited. After thinking about the problem for a while, I decided that I could enlarge the image via a print. Then these fantastic colors found on the fall leaves of my Keiffer Pear tree caught my eye and this print is the result of my thoughts.

No matter how many of these leaves I pick up, each is a work of art with both bright and subtle hues to hold my attention. Compare this print with those found under the Islam Popular series. All have the same play of color and show a unique combination of detail. I am driven to preserve each just as I am moved to catch each daylily bloom. The next image is a combination of several of these Keiffer Pear images showing this diversity of color.

This medium size print matches White Sunlight and Lavender Sunshine in size and the three together make a fabulous grouping. This is my favorite form with the full rolled petals with light ruffles. Again, low bud count doomed it to extinction but the beauty remains.

Another lost cultiver saved to posterity as a fine art print. One might ask why this bloom was discarded. The bud count was too low and other similar daylilies had higher bud counts. With a flower that last only a day, a four bud plant is not desirable even if the bloom is a delicate silvery ruffle. Hybridizers look for five-way branching with 25 or more buds. I will remember this one because the blooms will last over one hundred years. This print pairs with Lavender Sunshine beautifully.

The dark eye is a trait that is being selected in some cultivars of the daylily. It is a very striking image in the garden as well as on a wall. This is a large print that will fit in any big room. The rain has kept the bees from collecting the pollen which still sits on the stamens. I was always racing the bees for the pollen so that I could make my crosses. If I was later than 10:00 am, I was too late.
