Fall Colors

In my mind’s eye, I can see the fall colors in the western aspens and the maple and oak display in the New England forests.  Each Fall, I can even escape to the spray of color in the Southern Appalachians.  But thanks to a wonderful, yet often maligned, introduction to my coastal environment, I can stay home and enjoy the many bright hues found on the leaves of the Islam Popular or Chinese Tallow (also know as “the popcorn tree”).

I have often picked these colorful leaves from the forest floor and admired their singular beauty amongst their immeasurable variations and enjoyed them as small visual gifts of found art.

I have sadly watched their transient beauty dissolve within a day and have felt the loss.  In these six prints, that beauty has been preserved.  They carry me through the year until the next Fall, at which time, I will discover the colors again.

I have limited the size of these images to small 8×10 prints.  This size is compatible with the scale of each leaf and allows the prints to be displayed in small kitchens and baths where the seasonal splash of color is a welcome accent.  Watch for larger prints of this subject to appear here so as to be used in larger spaces.

And yes, I have placed the original leaves on the two prints found at the bottom of these thumbnails and re-created a combined image.

And here are the first two larger prints.  Both are of the great fall colors of the Keiffer Pear leaves.

Continuing with the larger prints, these next three are from Saluda Shoals Park in Irmo, South Carolina.   A great afternoon escape on a busy weekend but not known for its fall colors but surprises are everywhere.  To look at these images, one would expect to be in the deep woods in the  Appalachians.
