This somewhat distorted dwarfed live oak tree naturally frames the salt marsh view. You are looking west from the northern edge of Ladys Island into the marshes of the Coosaw River. The flotsam on the marsh is a large mat of dried and broken Spartina grass. This is a natural process wherein the energy stored in the grass is made available to microscopic organisms which support larger and larger animals until they arrive at our table as a fine fish fillet or bowl of shrimp. The sun will set in this image every evening and will often radiate a peach glow above the emerald green or golden cast of the Spartina grasses.
