The Greeks and Romans have their ruins and so do we. Old Sheldon Church was destroyed by both the English Army during the Revolutionary War and by “Sherman’s Army during the Civil War. Both times these actions were taken because gun power was being stored in the structure to be used by the enemy of these foreign invaders. Today, it is a quiet, peaceful place beside the highway between Beaufort and Yemassee. Often visited and photographed by travelers as it sits shaded by the centurion live oaks that have grown around it. The tombstones of the Bull family and other early Americans can be found beside the ruins.
This print will frame un-matted to a 16 x 19 frame or matted to any larger standard sized frame.

Conch Plantation on Lady’s Island sits on a peninsular surrounded by a deep water creek. This print captures the image of a long neglected dock which many years ago accessed the creek. Salt marsh vistas, as seen here, have resulted in Beaufort being rated as one of the top ten locations in America to which one can retire.

Beaufort is no longer known for he long staple cotton once grown on the sea islands by plantation owners and their enslaved force of agriculture workers. Today, these same soils produce the ripe tomatoes found in the markets of the North East. Shipped as “greens” and “pinks” to ripen in the darkness of an eighteen wheeler. “Ripes,” as seen here, are for closer markets.

 Manor Oak 12 x 18
The live oaks of the Low Country often drape over the edge of the salt marsh and dip their lower limbs into the tidal waters. Here is a lovely old tree in full command of its place along the Beaufort River. It grows beside the manor house on Pleasant Point Plantation.

 The Old Barn (detail) 20 x 20
Its difficult to count the memories this image contains. A time gone by in a simpler world. I can stare into this print and I can recall sunny spring mornings getting ready to plant, or the end of a long day of harvesting. It reminds me of my grandfather, hard work and the smell of plowed earth.

 The Old Barn 10 x 14
This old barn behind the pecan tree is on US 21 between Beaufort and Columbia, South Carolina. a relic of times past, it stands as a reminder of the thousands of such structures that have fallen to the ground from neglect. I have several prints of old barns along the back roads of South Carolina. Each has a story to tell along with the image but these stories seem to disappear before the barns.

 Poison Ivy 20 x 20
The intense color of the background in this print, a painted metal barn, punches the entire image into a room. This makes a very beautiful framed print. Poison Ivy is cultivated in European gardens so as to enjoy its scarlet fall color. This print displays the leaves in their summer green color. Both forms will produce a rash on most people but these are safe to view and enjoy.

 IDA'S MAGIC 26 X 20
WOW! This daylily has it all – multiple colors, gold ruffles with beads, re-bloom, 20 plus buds on each of multiple scapes… It is a “must have” in the garden. For me – its a “must have” on the wall where I can appreciate all the intricacies of the bloom. This cultivar was developed by the renowned hybridizer, R. W. Munson in 1993 and has rapidly become a favorite among the many new complex blooms. To think this all started with a simple roadside orange flower.

 SEEDLING 19 - 28 X 20 - 72DPI
 EJS SEEDLING 18 X 24
EJS seedling and Seedling # 19 are two more examples of my hybridizing efforts. Both are transitional seedlings on the way to a final introduction but both warrant recognition of the beauty they possess today. From the hybridizer’s point of view - the bud count, branching, scape height, color and durability have been achieved. now comes the last hurtle – form.
